Build drawing skills: freehand spatial visualisation

Short Course
Mon 5 Mar 2018

This course is aimed at built environment professionals who wish to improve their freehand drawing and ability to communicate ideas visually, drawing from observation and also from imagination.

Over four classes participants will evolve spatial visualisation skills by examining objects, understanding how to draw them in space using only line to describe volume. Quick hand sketch, drawing lines, shapes and three-dimensional space and scale will develop as participants learn to draw in proportion. Perspective and projection drawings will be used to plan and put to paper the images from imagination, moving on to problem solve through drawing, building visual literacy.

All materials will be provided including cartridge paper, pencils and pens. A personal sketchbook will be given to students in which they can build up their body of work.

The course is open to all students and is suitable for beginners.

Student testimonies:

"The content of the course was interesting, especially relevant for work in the built environment. I would definitely recommend the course to others, I improved so much over the course in the past month."

"It taught me drawing techniques I did not know, adding to my repertoire"

"A good introduction to concepts in drawing which were new to me, but very important. I found the course challenging but extremely interesting and helpful."
