Zinc transforms sixties-built concrete block

Case study

Parsons Tower in Newcastle was a 38m high sixties-built concrete block. When the college decided to give it a face lift, few could imagine the transformation that was achieved.

VMZINC worked with the Red Box Design Group to create a contemporary exterior clad in ANTHRA-ZINC and QUARTZ-ZINC.

Longworth installed the curved standing seam roof and wall cladding.

The architect said "This project was about rejuvenating the building rather than a simple superficial refurbishment, and it has given the building a new lease of life, extending it’s usable life by further 30-40 years. Being a dominant part of the city landscape the Parson’s Tower building refurbishment had to satisfy the needs of Newcastle College but of equal importance improve the visual appearance for the general public…

The building has been transformed, and now stands as a physical beacon which further advertises the ambition of the College."
