Case study

In collaboration with West Midlands Safari Park and car park refurbishment specialists Mulberry GBC, Aggregate Industries has provided its award winning Superflex asphalt for a new development.

THE BRIEF
Home to more than 165 species of exotic animals and other attractions including a theme park, West Midland Safari Park in Bewdley is undergoing an ongoing programme of construction to build sustainable Safari Lodges on-site, giving visitors the opportunity to stay overnight and get front row seats to see animals such as cheetahs, elephants, red pandas, giraffes and white rhinos up close in their habitat. The latest phase of eight Safari Lodges brings the total to 18, with more planned for the tiger, lion and hippo enclosures.

To allow visitors to park alongside their Safari Lodge during their stay, West Midland Safari Park worked with car park refurbishment specialists Mulberry GBC to provide a dedicated car park for the most recent lodges.

THE SOLUTION
Mulberry GBC specified Aggregate Industries’ award-winning 160t x 10mm Superflex Min 55 PSV.

SuperFlex asphalt combines the properties of high fatigue resistance with excellent deformation resistance. Suitable for a range of applications, it is a highly durable material available in 6mm to 20mm aggregate sizes.

Jon Close, Quantity Surveyor from Mulberry GBC said: “We know the quality of the Aggregate Industries Superflex range, and we had no hesitation in using it for this car park project. Versatile to work with, Superflex is also crack resistant, which increases its longevity and reduces maintenance costs. As such, it was the ideal solution for the project and we’re confident it will remain fit for purpose for people visiting the park for many years to come.”

Aggregate boulders from Aggregate Industries were also provided for the rhino enclosure as part of improvements to support and enhance the new overnight accommodation offer.
