Retrofit Meets: Estates

Talk
Wed 28 Jun 2023, 6-8pm

Retrofit Meets is an in-person series of panel events that connects people through themes and topics relevant to the deep retrofit of homes at scale. Produced as part of Retrofit 23 and taking place on Wednesday evenings at the Building Centre, this series showcases research and ideas on the residential retrofit challenge. The panels feature guest speakers presenting a project or provocation, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Join us for these thought-provoking sessions and meet and share with others involved in the retrofit puzzle.

A series of three presentations from architects and engineers looked at deep retrofit at scale in our London estates:

  • Mellis Haward, Archio: “Becontree Model House - co-designing retrofit solutions to the largest housing estate in Europe. Mellis is joined by Amandeep Singh of Be First
  • Harrison Symonds, Proctor & Matthews Architects: “Masterplanning the Carpenters estate for an evolving community”
  • Gareth Atkinson, Civic Engineers and Linda Thiel of White Arkitekter: “A provocation for the Great Estates”

The session was c
haired by Laura Broderick, Commercial Partnerships Manager at the Building Centre
