Part of Shaping Space

Join the Building Centre and the V&A in a free online CPD for primary school educators. Exploring the key themes of Shaping Space - Architectural Models Revealed, we are inviting educators to consider architectural model making practices and their application in the classroom. We are joined by an expert panel to discuss the role of creativity, creative making practice and architectural model making in education. The event will also include a hands on practical session, with a make along activity.

Join chair Marta Ajmar, Head of V&A/RCA History of Design Postgraduate Programme and co-investigator of Shaping Space, in conversation with Daniel Charny professor of Design at Kingston University and founding director of Forth. Daniel is a creative director, curator and educator, through his award winning work on Fixperts he inspired learners to apply their creativity to real world problems.

The hands on make along session is led by Maz Weineck. Maz is a model-maker and artist, currently working at Stanton Williams architects, creating presentation and development models as well as facilitating the making of models within the practice. Maz will be taking us through a practical session of mould making and casting to explore texture in architectural model making.

To participate in Maz’s practical session we recommend that you have a range of different materials and equipment available to you. These should include:

Materials:

- 500g Plasticine or clay- If using plasticine Maz recommends putting your plasticine into some warm water just before the session so that it softens slightly and is easier to work with.

- 200g Plaster

- Water

Equipment:

- Cups for mixing

- Mixing stick

- Bits and bobs for creating texture- This could be all sorts of things ranging from pencils, rulers, card to dried pasta – anything that you might have lying around that could help create texture and shape
