The attractions of electric vehicles (EVs) in the city are manifold - lower emissions and cleaner air, quieter streets (and therefore less need to seal buildings) and the consequent benefit to demand management through vehicle to grid connection. There may even be the potential to reclaim the estimated 20+% of the city given over to vehicles. This was once a slow-burning dream, but all of a sudden we have a timetable - just over 20 years to adapt our cities to function with EVs. Is there a hidden downside? This Conversation will explore the challenges now facing built environment professionals as the era of EVs begins in earnest.
