The roads and houses we build and use are responsible for much of the UK’s waste and carbon dioxide. This session explores new and exciting materials that are making construction more sustainable. Pupils will analyse and investigate natural and sometimes surprising building materials including timber, compost waste, mycelium (root system of fungi) and more to explore how they can be used to create an eco-friendly urban environment.
The session includes comparing/contrasting, experimenting and communicating, with a focus on pupils using their own creativity and imagination to solve real world problems.
With links to the Science and Geography curriculum, the session also cross subjects like Maths, D&T, English and Art.

Testimonials from teachers who have attended sessions include:
"The children were fully engaged and enjoyed the activities. The session linked with their PSHE, Science, History, and Geography curriculum. The activities instilled curiosity and imagination in them."
"The staff was very professional and delivered the session in a very child-friendly way. They were calm and enthusiastic about the subject and were very organised while delivering the session content."
"It was so useful to have an industry professional talk to the students and answer their questions, it was also great that it was an environment where other professionals were working so it gave the boys a real-world experience. The sessions were a good mix of practical and questioning and the timings meant there was a real flow to the session."
