Wienerberger wins brand new award at the BIM Show Live 2018

Wienerberger, the UK’s leading provider of wall, roof and landscaping solutions, has snapped up a new Building Information Modelling (BIM) award following the BIM Show Live, 2018.

The inaugural industry awards, which were introduced as part of the BIM Show Live, were looking for beyond-the-norm award entries that disrupt traditional thinking and showcase the capabilities of advanced technologies in the built environment.

Up against stiff competition, including finalists FaulknerBrowns Architects and BAM construction, Wienerberger, working together with PCSG, snapped up the ‘Clever Stuff’ award with their winning entry of the Viability tool; an innovative application that enables a user to search for any location in the UK by coordinates, postcode or by browsing, and quickly retrieves information that is required to consider the social, resource and commercial viability of a development.

Judged on its innovative use of digital construction methods, digital design processes, sustainability performance and overall outcomes, Wienerberger’s new tool, with the working name of the V3, is able to process and retrieve planning information, demographic information and flood risk information in minutes, a task that would normally take at least six-eight weeks.

Developed with PCSG, this new piece of technology directly links manufacturing and supply chain optimisation with the delivery of social outcomes; enabling the right homes to be built in the right places. The technology supports manufacturing-led, digitally connected supply chains and the growth of local SME trades and suppliers by providing access to large projects which may otherwise be inaccessible. It also supports the reduction of the performance gap through manufacturing-led supply chains as well as the circular construction economy by making measurable the impact of re-entering a product or system into the supply chain.

Annette Forster, Marketing Director at Wienerberger, said: “We’re thrilled to have won this new BIM award. The V3 tool is a perfect example of the teamwork between Wienerberger as manufacturer, thought leadership from Paul Surin, our Head of Built Environment and Steve Thompson at PCSG. The tool, which is currently in beta testing, shows the direction that digital construction should take in the future, and we’re excited to see where it will lead us next.”
