Wienerberger Ltd. acquires Maincor Ltd. to expand its current offering to Underfloor Heating Solutions in the UK

On 4 January 2024, the owners of Maincor Ltd. a UK trading specialist in underfloor heating solutions and Wienerberger have signed a definitive agreement to acquire all shares in Maincor Ltd. The company was established in 2007 by Rod & Gloria Hickmott and joined by Kelvin Liscombe as Managing Director in 2012.

The parties to the transaction agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Wienerberger Ltd is known for its range of brick, block and roof tiles and supplies a wide range of façade and roof solutions for the built environment. In recent years it has expanded its offering to include ventilation and insulation systems through its acquisition of Building Product Design in 2019, followed by FloPlast and Cork Plastics in 2021 which brought complementary roofline, rainwater and drainage solutions. In early 2023 it launched a solar roof offering and now, this most recent acquisition sees Wienerberger move into the underfloor heating space with a turnkey offering for the UK market from Maincor.

Keith Barker, Chief Operating Officer, Wienerberger UK & Ireland commented, “Maincor are a great addition to our business, offering a strong design and technology capability with knowledge of piping and underfloor heating systems. They have an excellent customer base and route to market. The Wienerberger business will be able to offer greater market access, at scale, whilst exploring synergies with offerings from our Pipelife business based in Ireland.”

Wienerberger is looking ahead to 2025 when compliance with the Future Home Standard will become mandatory and developers will need to ensure all new homes produce 75-80% fewer carbon emissions than homes built today under current building regulations. A fabric-first approach ensuring use of high quality, thermally efficient materials will achieve this in part but will need to be supplemented by new, low-carbon technologies to capture and manage energy more efficiently. Wienerberger is now well-positioned to offer solutions for a greater proportion of the building envelope.
