The role of innovative materials in high end spaces

One of the key requirements for commercial projects – whether an office development or high end residential building – is to make a lasting impact when people first walk in. And with reception areas often being the first part of the building people see, it’s important that they make the right lasting impression as Phil Gay, director at Cre8 Joinery Solutions explains.

Entrance and reception areas often set the tone for the rest of the building, so a key consideration for commercial projects has to be the style of this space – from the colour scheme and requirements to, of course, the joinery used throughout.

Cre8 offers a variety of materials to suit any commercial requirement, whether that’s traditional materials such as timber and concrete, or modern materials which boast a number of added benefits.

FENIX NTM®

Acryclic resin surface FENIX NTM laminate has been created using nanotechnology by Italian manufacturer Arpa Industriale, and offers a number of impressive benefits as well as a unique and attractive super matt appearance – making it a popular choice with designers wanting to deliver the perfect balance of form and function.

Extremely matt with low light reflectivity, FENIX NTM is soft to the touch and is available in a wide range of colours. It is the perfect solution for high specification projects and lends itself for use on a number of different applications – including office reception desks, kitchens and washrooms – thanks to being thermally self-healing, anti-fingerprint, hydro repellent and resistant to scratches and abrasion.

FENIX NTM also boasts anti-bacterial properties, making it ideal for use in high traffic spaces where hygiene is a key consideration, such as large office developments with shared washroom facilities, and is available from manufacturers such as Cre8 and Washroom Washroom in the form of toilet and shower cubicles, as well as duct panels.

CORIAN®

Corian is a blend of pure acrylic polymer, pigments and natural mineral fillers, and its use in high end developments has remained popular thanks to its hygienic and durable surface and attractive appearance.

Available in a huge range of stylish colours and finishes, Corian adds both a stylish and practical touch to projects, making it particularly desirable for modern city office spaces.

The material is suitable for multiple uses, and is particularly popular for reception desks, tea points and islands.

QUARTZ

Marble has been a popular trend for some time, thanks to its visually attractive swirls and veins combined with a natural density that makes it as hardwearing as it is stylish.

Due to it being a natural material, marble is rarer and has limited availability, making it expensive to specify and work with. However, manufacturers have developed an array of alternative man-made materials using natural quartz mineral to create products like Silestone® and Caesarstone® which are similar in appearance to marble. As well as being more readily available than mined marble, they can also be manufactured in a range of different colours, textures and patterns including veining to mirror the look of natural marble.

Such marble-like materials are becoming a popular choice among specifiers in the commercial and residential sectors and not just because of their aesthetic properties. Quartz is one of nature’s hardest materials, making quartz-based materials incredibly hardwearing. Silestone and Caesarstone are both stain resistant, making them easy to clean and maintain.
