Royal progress through Bilco hatch starts Descent of the Shard

13 Dec 2012

When HRH the Duke of York began his now famous Descent of the Shard in September, it all began with a Bilco roof hatch.  Prince Andrew emerged from a Bilco surface mounted floor door on the 87th floor of the Shard in order to access the starting point of his 239 metre abseil in aid of the Outward Bound Trust and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust.  Its location at the top of the 310 metre tall Shard makes this access product the highest on the London skyline and probably in Western Europe.

Access to the rooftop spaces of many of London’s most prestigious buildings is via one of Bilco’s range of robust roof hatches and floor doors, either from Bilco’s standard range of products or tailor made on a bespoke basis for unique applications.
