Passivent Education In Future Design For The Environment

The importance of green strategies in the design of sustainable building will be aired at Ecobuild 2012.

Passivent, the UK’s leader in natural ventilation and daylighting solutions for domestic and commercial structures and part of the Building Product Design (BPD) Group, has announced it will be giving practical support to the new Greenpower Education Trust initiative- Design Your Environment- being launched at the sustainability show (March 20-22, ExCel, London).

As a result, Passivent’s team will be giving concise lectures three times a day at Ecobuild, highlighting the importance of natural ventilation and natural daylight in building design.

The lectures form part of the program of lectures and workshops for nine school teams, who will be presenting their own designs demonstrating the importance of sustainable engineering within the built environment.

Greenpower’s Design your Environment has the backing of Ecobuild, Fordingbridge, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and The Princes Foundation. The two-part program expected to roll out in September will encourage students to learn about sustainable design and their own environmental impact through activity filled Design your Environment Days and an annual sustainable design competition.

The scheme compliments Greenpower’s existing schools challenge- also supported by Passivent- whereby young people are encouraged to learn about sustainable engineering by designing, building and racing their own electric cars.

Siobhan Gadiot, BPD marketing communications manager, commented, “The Design your Environment initiative is a logical progression to Greenpower’s program to encourage the builders of the future to understand, and appreciate the need to include sustainable solutions, and implement them. Passivent has always been committed to investing in our future. Greenpower and all that it stands for aligns very closely with Passivent’s own ethos of applying innovative engineering principles to develop solutions that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and encouraging the youth of today to become the engineers of tomorrow.”

Passivent is a founder member of the NatVent EC-EU-funded project co-ordinated by the Building Research Establishment to develop practical natural ventilation solutions for the commercial sector, and is developing “smart” solutions to promote adoption of natural ventilation and daylighting.
