Orangery Extension for a Beautiful Victorian Home Refurbishment

30 Aug 2018
Case study

Set on the edge of a rural Buckinghamshire village, the homeowners of this generous detached Victorian property were looking to create an informal seating and dining area that would overlook their delightful garden.

Purchased 5 years ago, the owners had a plan to renovate their heritage property. Following the complete refurbishment of all internal rooms, they now wanted to add a timber orangery extension to the rear elevation of the house and appointed Westbury to help.

Working with the local authorities and associated Green Belt controls, we designed a classic orangery that would provide an alternative internal link to two parts of the house. The newly crafted living space joins the current sitting room and dining rooms together. At both junctions, Westbury provided two new identical internal doors.

With careful consideration to the original Victorian features, the orangery’s classic proportions, deep entablature and delicate joinery have resulted in an impressive addition to this attractive property.

French Doors open fully to ensure a perfect relationship between the indoors and out. The large six pane windows give uninterrupted views of the beautifully landscaped English country garden, resulting in a wonderful light atmosphere for dining and relaxing.

An original sash window of the study was retained and restored to create an internal feature of the orangery.

The success of any glazed building is judged by how much it is enjoyed, how much it is used and more importantly, how long it will last.  Painted in Westbury White, this new timber orangery extension was treated with a three-coat spray-applied, microporous paint system by Teknos. This system enhances its longevity and durability, meaning the owners should not have to repaint their orangery for 10-12 years. The interior of the orangery is furnished with statement pieces by Oka.

Windows and doors were also supplied by our sister company, Westbury Windows & Joinery.
