Hat trick of Kalzip Awards for ExCeL London

News
ExCeL London, Phase 2 has won three awards at Kalzip’s recent Teamkal Conference and Awards ceremony including being crowned ‘Best of the Best’ project. The external panel of judges described the winning entry as “A refreshing, well executed innovative design showcasing Kalzip products in new applications - an excellent achievement given the technical tolerances involved resulting in a very fine, elegantly assembled project.”

This impressive new extension to ExCeL London was designed and developed by Grimshaw Architects who were novated to complete the project under design, build and management contractor Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd. The whole building envelope including the striking Kalzip TF800R aluminium facade system was installed by the award-winning Teamkal Contractor, Hathaway Roofing Ltd who also received awards for the ‘Best Product Application’ and ‘Best Overall Performing Project’.

Hathaway installed over 5,300 sqm of carefully detailed Kalzip TF800R façade panels which wrap neatly under to form external soffit areas and continue inside ‘through the external glazing’ as walls and ceilings around the exhibition and conference centre’s iconic new east entrance. Some of the RAL 9006 coated TF800R façade panels affixed to car parking area behind the south elevation are perforated for ventilation and to allow a certain amount of daylight through.

Kalzip’s TF800R façade system has endless aesthetic appeal - its distinctive profile enhances the effect of light and shade through the course of day and is available in a comprehensive range of colour coatings. The Kalzip TF800R is also a very practical façade solution because being aluminium, it is highly durable and lightweight which leads to cost savings on supporting steelwork - whilst the system’s acoustic and thermal performance capabilities are flexible enough to meet the architect’s most demanding design specification requirements.
