Georgian-Style new build country home

23 Oct 2012
Case study

This opulent new build country home in Sussex required a complete range of timber windows and doors throughout.

The architect’s design recreated the Georgian-style affectively, specifying a traditional timber box sash window that could also offer high performing double glazing. Westbury Window & Joinery Ltd was selected as the preferred supplier, chosen for its traditional designs that give authentic sightlines and the depth of proportion required for the recessed Georgian style of fenestration. Westbury Box Sash Windows offer a BSI energy rating from A-C dependent upon specification. A high performing product that gives a whole frame U-value of 1.4 w/m²K, providing optimum balance of comfort, noise reduction and the all-important correct aesthetic.

Made using engineered timber for its durability and stability, the windows feature a traditional ‘weights and cords’ mechanism and polished chrome ironmongery. The window design was carried throughout to include full height sash windows as sidelights beside the French doors to the rear ground floor.

A bespoke fixed casement ornamental arched window was also specified. Positioned central to the frontage, this window floods the upper landing with natural light. A Westbury oak conservation entrance door, finished in black stain, provides a fitting grand aesthetic to the property’s frontage.

The project also included a central timber rooflight lantern atop a light shaft from the roof that provides natural illumination and an added sense of grandeur to the entrance hall. Entirely manufactured from engineered timber with aluminium protective cappings and using double glazed units, the roof lantern is structurally extremely strong. Proof of this strength is demonstrated by the full weight of the grand chandelier hanging from its central ridge.

Finally, the property includes an adjoining three car garage and annexe. The boarded stained double garage doors are also made from Westbury oak.

The high specification demanded by the property’s owner and the architect is reflected in the fixtures, fittings and incredibly high-quality finish throughout. This has been supported by Westbury Windows & Joinery’s provision of exceptional fenestration products.
