East London offices refurbished with Stopgap 800

Case study

F. Ball’s Stopgap 800 Wearcoat, a self-levelling wearing ccommercial and industrial grade floor compound, has been used to create a high-quality floor surface as part of the refurbishment of a 1930s’ office building in East London.

Having removed the original cellular offices and stripped back the existing, old-fashioned finishes to create a contemporary ‘industrial’ feel, the developers wanted to maintain the design theme by installing cementitious wearing surfaces. Cementitious wearing surfaces would provide the option for new occupiers to install a floorcovering if preferred.

Main flooring contractors H.I.S. Contracts specified Stopgap 800 Wearcoat for the project and subcontracted Euro Resin Solutions to undertake the work on the office block floor.

Euro Resin Solutions primed the office subfloor with Stopgap P131 General Purpose Primer, a primer designed to promote the adhesion of Stopgap smoothing underlayments to smooth non-absorbent surfaces. Stopgap P131 can also be used as a general purpose primer for absorbent surfaces to promote adhesion and to prevent unacceptably rapid drying of adhesives and smoothing underlayments.

Stopgap 800 Wearcoat was then pump applied over the entire office floor, covering an area of 1100m2. Stopgap 800 is a self-levelling commercial and industrial grade flooring compound that is used for upgrading and renovating new and existing internal floors in light to heavy-duty applications, where floorcoverings are not necessarily required to be installed. It is suitable for use in areas such as storerooms, post rooms, workshops, corridors and warehouses.

Stopgap 800 Wearcoat is protein-free which allows it to be used in biologically sensitive areas. It can be used for application over a wide range of subfloor types including sand / cement screed, concrete, granolithic, terrazzo, epoxy and polyurethane resins and Stopgap waterproof surface membranes. Stopgap 800 Wearcoat can also be pump applied and is low odour and protein-free.

Commenting on the East London office block refurbishment, David Mills, Director of H.I.S. Contracts, said: “I can always depend on F. Ball products to get the job done. F. Ball has been a market leader in the flooring industry since the beginning of my career and they continue to be a brand that I trust. Whatever the nature of the job I know that, with F. Ball, I can be confident of a high standard and a professional finish.”
