Case study

Mumford & Wood Conservation™ timber windows and doors have been specified by award-winning Epsom Builders Limited of Epsom, Surrey for a fabulous new-build property in the vibrant heart of Esher.

One of two individually designed properties this unique family home of almost 5,000sq ft is stylishly fitted out with sleek surfaces, zoned underfloor heating, security and multi-room entertainment technology that provides all the benefits and requirements of a luxury 21st Century lifestyle.

Externally this Arts & Craft property, a style which spanned a 30 year period reaching its height in the early 20th Century, has been designed to blend gracefully and sympathetically into its surroundings, built from materials carefully selected to stand the test of time.  Designed over three floors, rooms of generous proportions benefit from double aspect Conservation™ flush leaded casement windows and French doorsets that provide maximum natural light and an air of spaciousness throughout.

A carefully coordinated combination of leaded light casement windows have been specified and includes both traditional side hung and top hinge, swing-out casements over fixed sashes; non bar French doorsets, and an attractive arrangement of clear pane French doorsets flanked either side with top hinge casements.

The hand crafted oak staircase has been meticulously matched with a beautiful Conservation™ solid entrance door, that features vertical oak planks, and coordinates with the Conservation™ fixed glazed stairwell feature window that together create a dramatic visual.  Fixed glazed side panels either side of the entrance door also provide maximum light to penetrate this impressive space.

Conservation™ windows and doors by Mumford & Wood are internally glazed for improved aesthetics and security while a Secured by Design specification is an alternative option.  The standard 24mm units feature 9mm antiqued lead.  This forms the came sections which are applied to the inside and outside of the outer glass leaf with a simple, chamfered internal profile.

Made-to-order, factory finished, double glazed products in the Conservation™ range, which also includes popular sliding sash windows and bi-folding doors, combine modern manufacturing technology with superior aesthetics to achieve the highest levels of thermal and acoustic performance.  Together this has earned the brand award-winning status.  Conservation™ products are manufactured in accordance with the British Woodworking Federation’s Wood Window Alliance standards and achieve exceptional U-values that far exceed the requirements of current Part L Building Regulations’ and are BRE A+ rated.

Products are manufactured from the finest clear-grade FSC certificated timber and supplied with three coats of high quality, spray applied, micro-porous paint or stain that achieves durable, low maintenance protection.  Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ windows and doors have an expected life of between 55-65 years, carry the BSI Kitemark and are Energy Saving Trust listed.
