Contemporary Alu-Clad Windows And Doors By Lomax + Wood

25 Nov 2015
Case study

Aluminium-Clad timber flush casement windows and doors from the Contemporary collection by Lomax + Wood have been specified for a modern, new-build, private development just minutes from the cosmopolitan city centre of Oxford.

The dwellings have been designed to complement the form, style and materials of the more established surrounding suburban properties typical of this sought after area.  Traditional proportions and roof pitches; use of natural materials such as timber cladding complemented with the sharp lines of crisp, clean render; timber casement windows and a number of contemporary design features contribute towards the creation of these high quality, sustainable buildings.

Renowned for traditional, period-style windows and doors in the Kensington & Chelsea range, Lomax + Wood have supplied made-to-order, double glazed Alu-Clad windows and doors throughout this boutique development. “We are delighted to be able to satisfy demand for both traditional and contemporary-style properties,” says Chris Wood, managing director, Lomax + Wood.  “Our diverse range ensures that we have a product to suit every style of architecture and it is important that we are able to meet our clients’ expectations for variety, quality, service and value.”

Alu-Clad timber side-hung flush casement windows, fixed glazed panels and wide, open-out French doorsets together with solid timber, planked entrance and external doors are featured.  Manufactured from BM TRADA FSC® Chain of Custody certificated engineered timber, together with external aluminium cladding, these Contemporary products are strong, stable and robust offering the natural warmth and beauty of timber internally with a hard wearing, low maintenance exterior.  Factory finished, spray applied, micro-porous paint in RAL 9010 has been used internally complemented with RAL 7035 grey externally.

High levels of thermal and acoustic performance come as standard with Lomax + Wood’s windows and doors. Both Alu-Clad flush casements as used in this project, and Tilt Turn windows also in the Contemporary range, have a Euro 78mm wide profile and 42mm wide glass unit.  Both achieve an excellent U-value and the triple glazed Tilt-Turn open-in option offers a U-value of 0.78 W/m²K which meets Passivhaus standards.   An acoustic rating of 38dB, also certificated by BM TRADA, for the Lomax + Wood standard section casement ensures another measure of comfort is met for homeowners.  Products are internally glazed for improved aesthetics and security.

“We love our smart and stylish windows and doors,” says Oxford homeowner, “and our visitors always comment on them.  Being at the front of the development, and with the very large areas of glass and glazing both to the front and back, there was some concern about warmth and noise but we needn’t have worried.  We are totally protected from road noise and extremely warm and comfortable with low energy consumption.  And maintenance is minimal; this a great advantage for families with a busy lifestyle.”
