Circular building demonstrates sustainable construction

30 Nov 2016
Case study

Lindapter’s steel clamping systems were specified for a steel-framed prototype building constructed outside The Building Centre to demonstrate the viability of a circular economy within the construction industry. The structure known as the Circular Building was created by Arup, The Built Environment Trust, Frener & Reifer and BAM, it was designed and delivered with components and materials that can be reused, remanufactured or recycled.

Arup asked Lindapter to design and supply a connection system to secure the Circular Building’s roof panels, wall panels, and glazing supports to the structural frame. One of the engineers from Lindapter’s Technical Support Team designed a bespoke connection solution using the CE Marked Type B steelwork clamp, which allowed the contractor to quickly align and install the eco-board panels into position before tightening with standard hand tools.

Further to the connection design facilitating the rapid installation of the panels and glazing elements, the clamps can be easily removed during deconstruction. Lindapter's connection method was particularly appropriate for this project due to Lindapter’s synergy with the principles of the circular economy, for example, Lindapter’s products provide flexibility, longevity, ease of deconstruction and the potential to reuse or recycle.
