Children, Young People and the Built Environment - Levelling Up Committee Inquiry

1 Feb 2024
News

Children and young people are all but ignored in built environment decision making in the UK - particularly England.

Yet, they are the demographic most affected by poor planning and urban design.

The Built Environment Trust exists to inspire, connect and empower people to improve the quality of our built environment. We do this through our workshop which empowers individuals with the agency to make change and get involved.

Head of Learning, Sandra Hedblad, is leading a two-year campaign focusing on involving children and young people. “We want to listen and actively engage with children and young people in order to help represent this ignored group. It is a timely campaign.”

You can read about the remit of the inquiry here

You can watch the debate live.

This is an important issue for the population in general and for everyone involved in the built environment sector in particular.

We are all connected somehow to children and young people and an environment that is good for the young is good for all demographic groups. We know our work has tremendous impact on every aspect of our lives.

We will keep you updated and informed as the Parliamentary Select Committee Inquiry progresses.
