Bringing Skilful Project Management and Sparkle to Westfield, White City

28 Jul 2015
Case study

With its unrivalled experience in high end, retail installations for global brands – including previous projects successfully completed for Westfield - Glass Aftercare was once again selected to project manage a very high profile installation at Westfield, White City. As part of the continuing development of the glittering mall, two new elegant shop frontages were to be installed for the world leading Hackett and Georg Jensen brands.

The project demanded the experience and management capabilities that Glass Aftercare could demonstrate through its proven track record. Working closely with Westfield's management and Cricursa, the preferred European based glass supplier specialising in oversized curved glazing, Glass Aftercare's role included coordinating seamlessly the interface between mall management, the glass manufacturer and contractor Albany.

To achieve completion on-time and to budget, Glass Aftercare took charge from the outset, starting with the removal of an existing eight metre glass facade. Its expert team completed this process smoothly, before managing the installation of the specified oversized curved glass panels measuring 5 metres by 1.7 metres and weighing some 750 kg each.

Glass Aftercare worked with GGR Glass, the specialist handling company, and employed Mini Spider cranes and Glass Vacuum lifters to complete the installations. The challenges of working within confined spaces, busy public areas and working out of hours were all successfully overcome.

The success of the project was attributable to Glass Aftercare's close project management, careful planning and the implementation of strict timetables with the glass supplier and other contractors. The result was the delivery of an on-time project that wholly met Westfield's expectations.
