Case study

Wienerberger's Barrow roof tiles expertly transformed the Alderley Brow residential roof, seamlessly matching with the original tiles and enhancing the building’s overall aesthetic appeal.

A roof retiling challenge with spectacular results

We were tasked by James Bros Roofing Contractors to supply the roof tiles for Alderley Brow, a large residential property where the James Bros team were embarking on a project to retile the roof. The brief was to make sure that the new tiles seamlessly recreated the look and feel of the original roof. This roof was a particular challenge to retile due to its size and the intricate craftsmanship required on the 20th century property.

Seamless roofing retiling with the Barrow tile

James Bros collaborated closely with the homeowner to identify the most suitable tiles from a choice of different manufacturers. After careful consideration, the team opted for Wienerberger's Barrow roof tile due to its outstanding qualities, in particular the clay tile’s durability and natural look. The handcrafted, cross cambered plain tile offers a clean appearance, making it the perfect choice for this project where the tiles needed to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding roofscape.

Once installed, the clay tile is there for the long run, as it’s one of the most durable materials to use in a roofing project. Clay tiles are resistant to rot, decay, insects, water damage and mould, perfect for long-term application.

Matthew James, Director at James Bros Roofing Contractors, explained: “The tile's craftsmanship and attention to detail allowed us to recreate the original roof design effortlessly. As the colour, look, feel and quality of the Barrow tile matched the original, it was the perfect choice to meet the project’s requirements.

“Importantly, we allowed enough time to complete the intricate craftsmanship required on this roof, and finalised the project within budget too, which is obviously of huge importance for the homeowner. The Wienerberger team liaised closely with us throughout the project and helped us keep to the agreed timelines.”

Success at Alderley Brow

The new roof beautifully complemented the overall look of the house while fitting in with the style of neighbouring roofs, and both the roofing contractor and homeowner were over the moon with the result.

Matthew continues: "Wienerberger's Barrow roof tiles played a crucial role in achieving the outcome we were originally briefed for at the Alderley Brow project. The tiles' quality, craftsmanship and stunning finish went above and beyond our expectations. I would definitely use the Barrow tiles again and recommend the tile to anyone who wants a clean, natural clay finish that is economical and sustainable.”

In recognition of its outstanding execution and high-quality workmanship, the Alderley Brow project was also shortlisted in the prestigious RCI Pitched Roofing Awards in the Best Use of Concrete and Clay Tiles for a Domestic Project category. This accolade celebrates the achievements of roofing contractors, manufacturers and suppliers who demonstrate exceptional technical ability and deliver excellent quality work.

Wienerberger's Barrow roof tile proved to be the perfect choice for the Alderley Brow project, effectively addressing the challenge of recreating the original roof design.

The project's success, along with the recognition received in the RCI Pitched Roofing Awards, highlights Wienerberger's commitment to delivering exceptional quality and customer satisfaction.
