Cutteslowe Walls

One startling story in the history of mixing tenure concerns the notorious ‘Cutteslowe Walls’ that divided a suburban area of Oxford between 1934 and 1959. This photo appeared in the Oxford Mail in 1959 as residents finally gained the right to remove two walls erected by a housing developer to separate a speculative development from the neighbouring council housing estate. For 25 years the barriers created tedious diversions for residents and traffic in the area.
