NEW STANDARDS OF THERMAL INSULATION WITH HEAT MIRROR GLASS DEVELOPMENTS

Glass Aftercare

NEW STANDARDS OF THERMAL INSULATION FOR WINDOWS AND FACADES WITH HEAT MIRROR GLASS DEVELOPMENTS

There have been unprecedented levels of innovation in the field of thermal insulation of windows and facades over recent years. Glass Aftercare has been at the forefront of many of the highly practical developments that significantly reduce energy costs and offer many other benefits to building owners.

New levels of insulating performance and functionality are being achieved with products such as Heat Mirror Glass, where the space between the panes of a double-glazed unit is separated by an additional film. It is therefore now a three layer system with two independent air spaces, but offering the advantage of weighing just the same as a double glazing unit and therefore allowing slim frame units to be constructed.

The suspended film is transparent to visible light and Heat Mirror Glass reflects infra-red radiation and harmful ultra-violet radiation back to its source. In the summer, this is towards the outside to keep a room cooler, improve solar shading and reduce air conditioning costs whilst also protecting furnishings from the effects of fading caused by ultra-violet rays. In the winter, when retaining warmth and insulating a building is essential in order to conserve energy, radiation is reflected back inside.

The appearance of Heat Mirror Glass is just the same as any other type of insulating glazing and this highly innovative technology is recognised for its outstanding contributions to the environment and sustainable design. Coated Heat Mirror films, are often used in conjunction with Low-E Glass, that minimises the amount of ultra-violet and infra-red light that can pass through it without compromising the amount of visible light that is transmitted.

With a service life of 25-30 years and the added benefits of sound insulation and significant noise reduction that the film that promotes, Heat Mirror Glass and Coated Heat Mirror films can contribute significantly to any organisation's energy efficiency, environmental and sustainabilty policies.
