A demonstration of the Porotherm clay block walling system and a debate on supply chain solutions were two of the highlights for Wienerberger at this year’s Built Environment Solutions & Technologies Show (BEST) exhibition in Birmingham. More than 1,300 people attended the exhibition, with visitors to the Residential Hub having the chance to meet with experts from Wienerberger
, the world’s biggest brick manufacturer, and discus the wide range of sustainable solutions offered through its comprehensive range of brick
, block and roof tile
A video of bricklayers using Porotherm blocks was shown to visitors and delegates at the residential homes section of the exhibition. The film, which is available on the Porotherm website, demonstrated both cavity wall
and monolithic construction, and the swift speeds that can be achieved when using the system. Wienerberger
’s construction systems specialists were on hand to discuss the system’s recent Ceram validation, NHBC acceptance and how Porotherm can also help to meet all levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes
In addition Simon Pearson, Wienerberger
’s director of sales – brick, joined Barratt Homes procurement director John Adams in taking a seminar on the importance of supply chain relationships. Simon, who has worked alongside Barratt for a number of years as part of Wienerberger
’s commercial brick strategy, said: “The key point we made was how critical communication is for suppliers to understand their client’s business and be able to respond, or even anticipate, their requirements. This can lead to positive product development and new solutions which offer added value and create a relationship not solely dependent on pricing.
“The event itself was good opportunity to meet up with colleague from across the industry and talk to buyers face-to-face, it’s always interesting to hear their thoughts on the products and services on offer. There was a great deal of interest in the Porotherm system, and the potential it has for vastly reducing the speed of construction on residential developments, and the variety of sustainable solutions Wienerberger
can offer for the total building envelope.”
Among the products with green credentials are Wienerberger
’s Warnham range of bricks, all manufactured to the BES 6001 responsible sourcing standard, bricks and blocks with high recycled material content, the SUDS Aquata paver, and Sandtoft’s carbon neutral Britlock tile.
