Can't see the wood for the trees?
Well, a leading timber merchant has been given the official stamp of
approval for selling environmentally friendly wood.
All bar one of Arnold Laver's Timber World branches across the country have
been awarded accreditation from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
The Timber World depot at South Shields will also receive the FSC and PEFC
accreditations once it's imminent move to new premises has been completed.
Arnold Laver Timber World can now sell their products with the FSC and PEFC
trademarks to inform consumers that their wood and wood-based products are
from well-managed forests.
Pat Burke, Arnold Laver Timber World's Group Purchasing Director, said: "We
are delighted to receive the accreditation from the FSC and the PEFC. It is
a real tribute to the standards of the company.
"At Timber World we aim to provide our customers with consistently high
quality products. With well-managed forests we can do exactly this and put
at ease people's fears about the environment at the same time."
FSC is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to
promoting responsible management of the world's forests, following public
concern about deforestation and demand for a trustworthy wood-labelling

* Meanwhile, Arnold Laver Timber World has boosted its ability to supply
softwood products after one of its key suppliers become the largest producer
of FSC material in Russia.
Siberian production mill, LDK1 sawmill of Lesosibrisk, has obtained a
certificate for 300,000 hectares of forest, giving the mill capability of
producing 80,000m3 of pure FSC certified sawn timber.
