SUSTAINABLE WINDOWS AND DOORS REVEALED AT ECOBUILD 2009

JELD-WEN, one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of doors and windows, will be demonstrating an exciting range of sustainable and energy efficient external joinery solutions at Ecobuild 2009.

The company is proud to reveal its new DreamVu™ window at the exhibition. DreamVu™ is the first UK volume manufactured timber window, to achieve an ultra low U-value, delivering a performance from 0.7 to 1.0W/m2K. The window has been released to help architects and developers to meet the greater energy efficiency requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Already being considered for a number of eco houses across the country, DreamVu™ has all the benefits of an aesthetically pleasing timber window, which is manufactured from PEFC Chain of Custody certified timber and with market leading thermal performance. There are three DreamVu™ windows within the range, with the option of aluminium cladding on certain ranges. All windows are factory glazed, with the option of double or triple insulating glass units. Gas filled options are available, as are styles with acoustic performance. The range is also available in a choice of standard or bespoke colours.

JELD-WEN offers high performance soft-coated 24mm Low E insulating glazing units as standard on all its factory glazed timber windows, which keeps heat from the radiators inside the home during winter and reflects the heat from the sun outside during the hot summer months, preventing solar gain.

Tony Pell, Product Manager at JELD-WEN, explains: “The construction industry is more than ever looking for sustainable joinery products that offer greater energy efficiency. Timber is widely recognised as the only truly sustainable material for windows and doors and this is leading to strong demand from developers across the UK.”

Also at Ecobuild, JELD-WEN will be demonstrating its high performance composite doorsets and its innovative new 35mm, 30 minute fire rated FireGuard® doors.

On display will be JELD-WEN’s composite doorsets, which are six times more thermally efficient than other materials and are extremely robust, meeting the requirements of PAS23/24 and available to meet Secured by Design standards. These doorsets are specified for many developments throughout the country and are renowned for their solid construction, excellent value for money and high thermal performances.

JELD-WEN’s FireGuard® doors have had tremendous success since they were released last year. These innovative 35mm fire doors are proving popular as it means a fire door can be fitted into standard door frames, so it is much easier and more affordable to improve fire safety in existing properties. FireGuard® is available across JELD-WEN’s complete range of moulded, veneered, foil, paint grade and hard board internal doors.

JELD-WEN has a strict environmental policy and has recently established an in-house timber recycling facility at one of its factories. Here, JELD-WEN produces pellets from timber waste that it then uses to provide energy for its factory, in a 360 degree recycling operation.

The company’s window and doors factories have been accredited to ISO14001, the environmental standard, demonstrating its strong commitment to excellence in management of its resources for environmental benefit.
