Sustainable success for Alumasc in association with ruralZED
Sustainable building products from Alumasc have been chosen for one of the Construction Industry’s most exciting new developments in recent years.
Award winning ‘eco-architects’, ZEDfactory approached Alumasc to become a member of their consortium, providing solutions for elements of ruralZED, the UK’s first affordable carbon neutral house and for landARK, the self-sufficient sustainable home that can be equipped for off-grid living.
Armaseam Zinc standing seam roofing, Aqualine aluminium gutter systems and ST mineral and silicone renders were chosen by ZEDfactory for their sustainable credentials and proven longevity of performance. Armaseam provides a versatile, virtually maintenance free roofing solution with Zinc offering one of the lowest embodied energy levels of any processed metal. Aqualine exploits the natural strength and corrosion-resistant properties inherent in Aluminium and is 100% recyclable. ST mineral and silicone renders offer the option of being used with Cork insulation, a naturally fire-resistant, thermally stable material which requires no chemicals or additives in its manufacture for use as an insulant.
All of these products are manufactured at sites which are independently audited under the ISO 14001: 2004 Environmental Management Standard.
A ruralZED show home is currently open for public viewing in Grande-Synthe, a town in Northern France committed to sustainable development. Constructed in just six weeks, ruralZED is being showcased to encourage a more ‘environmentally aware’ lifestyle and has so far attracted over 900 visitors from the press, local community and across Europe. It is hoped that this project may lead to a larger development of ruralZED homes in Grande-Synthe in the near future.
In addition to their work with ZEDfactory, Alumasc continue to strengthen their portfolio of sustainable solutions with the introduction of Harmer Kessel Rainwater Management Systems. Designed to offer a reliable, trouble-free rainwater management package, the systems can recycle up to 50% of non-drinking water usage for both private and commercial projects.
Alumasc also boast an impressive track record in the design and supply of green roof systems, including the UK’s largest green roof at the Roll’s Royce factory in Goodwood. Integrated waterproofing systems Derbigum and Hydrotech offer undoubted environmental benefits together with associated products such as the fallnet ‘non penetrating’ fall arrest system, photovoltaic supports and Zinco solar powered intensive green roof irrigation units.
