Stiebel Eltron’s new HydroTower offers space-saving solution for UK housing stock

Green technology specialist Stiebel Eltron UK is launching an innovative new ‘HydroTower’ designed specifically for the domestic and social housing market.

The HydroTower is a combined 200-litre Hot Water Cylinder with 75-litre Buffer Cylinder sat above it. This makes it an ideal space-saving water heating solution for smaller terraced and semi-detached homes as well as apartments and flats.

The unit can be used in conjunction with both Stiebel Eltron ground and air source heat pumps, significantly reducing both energy waste and fuel costs.

Mark McManus, Stiebel Eltron UK Managing Director, said: “The UK has the largest percentage of older housing stock in Europe and making these homes energy efficient can be a real challenge.

“One of the biggest problems is a lack of space to fit green technology such as heat pumps and cylinders, which is why we have developed the new HydroTower combi hot water and buffer cylinder. The system runs extremely quietly and efficiently, is straight-forward for homeowners to programme and use, and requires very little maintenance.”

The HydroTower is Stiebel Eltron UK’s first combined hot water and buffer cylinder, measuring just 2.02m in height and a diameter of 0.55m, with 3.2m2 indirect coil surface area and 1.5m3/h maximum heating flow rate.

The HydroTower unit will work in conjunction with Stiebel Eltron’s WPL Air Source range (WPL 10 ACS, WPL 13, WPL 15 AS, WPL 25 AS) as well as the WPF Ground Source range (WPF 5 (S) and WPF 7 (S)).

Mark McManus added: “This is a space and energy saving unit that will allow us to compete in the social housing and smaller domestic markets, and is part of our overall strategy to develop a wider range of UK specific products.

“The HydroTower can be easily installed in small spaces – such as an airing cupboard or utility room – and offers a new solution for a wide range of retrofit domestic projects.

“Innovation is the key for driving the retrofit programme forward in the UK and at Stiebel Eltron we are continuing to invest in R&D to meet the growing demands for energy efficiency in the social housing sector.”

Stiebel Eltron is one of the world’s leading microgeneration technology manufacturers, developing market leading renewable heating and hot water products.
