Howarth Timber and Building Supplies continues to invest in the training of its staff after three trainees completed an intensive training course designed to prepare them for life at the builders’ merchant.
Graduates Stephen Djokic, Rebecca Hill and Adam Warriner all completed 13 days of external training provided by Pareto, a consultancy that trains more than 13,000 delegates a year. The training included sessions on sales fundamentals, leadership and management, as well as tips on how best to negotiate.
Howarth Timber is celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2015 and has used the year to cement its position as an employer committed to developing its staff. The launch of the Howarth Online Training Academy earlier this year, for example, gives staff and customers alike the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence across a wide range of specialisms and products.
Howarth Timber’s national sales manager, Mark Terry, said: “The training model for new graduate employees is adapted and changed year-on-year in order to increase its efficiency and usefulness to our trainees. The programme itself has been running from 2008 and in that time we’ve seen some serious success stories, with trainees now becoming branch managers and sales executives. We have every confidence that Stephen, Rebecca and Adam will follow in those footsteps.”
