Specifying glass for commercial buildings

Glass manufacturer Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has released the second in its Ask the Expert series of videos covering different aspects of glass technology for the built environment.

In this third chapter, Michael Metcalfe, national commercial sales manager, talks through the main aspects that should be considered when specifying glass for a commercial building project.

He said: “Glass is arguably the material that defines the look of modern commercial architecture more than any other. Its unique ability to flood interiors with light and deliver stunning views for occupants while also protecting them from the elements has seen its use by architects grow rapidly in recent decades.”

The video looks at how glass can be used to provide thermal insulation and minimise overheating, as well as how to ensure that glazing is strong enough to stand up to the various mechanical forces it will, or might, face throughout its lifespan.

The video follows a previous chapter looking at the role of glazing in digital displays and signage.
