As every hotelier knows, peace and quiet play a major role in attracting guests. So for the Kenilworth, situated in the bustling heart of the capital, the need for top rated sound insulation was absolutely critical and any treatment had to have the approval of the hotel’s acoustician.
Selectaglaze was asked to consider a number of designs for the hotel’s traditional sash windows and trials were undertaken to establish acoustic effectiveness and ease of operation. The preferred solution is a pair of linked hinged casements each covering one of the window sashes and glazed with toughened glass for the safety of guests.
The units, incorporating high compression seals, will reduce noise levels by more than 40dB and the opening arrangement allows ready access to the whole of the window, particularly important for cleaning. The design is both subtle and practical, fitting in well with the beautifully refurbished rooms.
Other major benefits include the elimination of drafts and much reduced heat loss through the window, providing a more comfortable room and lower operating costs.
Founded in 1966 and a Royal Warrant holder since 2004, Selectaglaze has worked extensively with many of the UK’s best known individual hotels and groups. Recent projects include assignments for The Waldorf Hilton, Browns, The Arch London and The Langham.
Secondary glazing can either be fitted during room upgrades or to a fully occupied hotel. The windows are fully fabricated off-site and close liaison with “front-of-house” and Housekeeping will allow installation to be completed with minimum disruption during room handover periods.
