Scandinavian Window Systems go back to school.

St Bede C of E School in Winchester opened its doors to pupils after extensive repair and refurbishment due to recent flooding.

Hampshire County Council Architects designed the rebuild and flood prevention requirements and authorised Benson Ltd as contractors responsible for the renovation of the existing building and new extensions, completely altering the school structure.

The extension included a new hall, music room, a dedicated area for children with special needs and improved staff facilities.

Scandinavian Window Systems (SWS) helped to breathe new life into the school by supplying the windows and doors to create a spatial, light atmosphere, opening up areas with large windows and glazed screens to the corridors linking classrooms and offices, providing St Bede's with an improved learning and teaching environment.

Low maintenance windows were supplied and doors were fitted with a low threshold for wheelchair friendly access and general ease of access for children. The windows and doors used in the new construction were aluminum and timber composite; aluminium withstanding all weather conditions, giving a fresh and modern look to the exterior buildings, coupled with the natural warmth and beauty of the interior timber frames.

Priorities included high insulation and security and safety. Doors were pre-factory fitted with panic escape mechanisms
