Saint-Gobain PAM UK launches product installation and operation videos that could help save companies time and money

It has been estimated that the reinstatement of failed street ironwork installations costs the industry circa £200 million per year, a cost that can be avoided if best practice methods are adopted.

With this in mind, Saint-Gobain PAM UK has launched a series of ‘Install Plus’ video guides to support contractors and installers by providing information on the correct installation and management of street ironwork.

The typical installation of a 600x600 access cover in the carriageway costs in the region of £750 which is made up of the cover and frame, bedding and reinstatement materials, traffic management, labour and plant.

Although the ironwork and bedding are only 20 per cent of this total cost, they are the main focus for enabling price reduction, but this perceived saving can actually cost many times more. By simply ensuring that correct installation methods and high performing products are used, increased longevity and ultimately a reduction in whole life costs can be achieved.

As costs are such a significant consideration when it comes to specifying and supplying municipal castings, Saint-Gobain PAM UK has developed this range of short videos to cover standard techniques which help promote correct installation, as well as ways in which to improve operator safety, efficiency and durability of the products.

Paul Thompson, marketing manager – municipal castings at Saint-Gobain PAM UK, commented: “There is a real problem in the industry with the incorrect installation of street ironwork, and this is having a very real financial impact on companies throughout the industry.

“We have devised the Install Plus product installation and operational guidance videos to enable clients, specifiers, contractors and installers to refresh their knowledge on correct installation of ironwork to help deliver best practice and reduce the amount of re-work required.”

The videos cover the full range of Saint-Gobain PAM UK’s access covers and gratings.
