Rockfon covers up at Kings Mill Hospital

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has invested over £320M in its Modernisation of Acute Services Project that will deliver a brand new hospital at Kings Mill and major improvements to Mansfield Community and Newark Hospitals. When selecting the ceilings for the new Kings Mill Hospital, the Trust wanted a concealed system and Rockfon provided the perfect solution with its Sonar D ceiling systems.

Frank Turner, Operations Manager for Skanska who were the main contractor on the new build, explained how their relationship with Rockfon developed as a result of the Trust’s decision. “The Trust was very keen to use a concealed system and Rockfon were able to supply this at a very competitive price. As the project progressed, we worked closely with the Rockfon team to solve problems on site as they arose. Their extensive range of products and grid systems allowed us to meet all of the Trust’s criteria and provide an excellent ceiling finish throughout the new facility.”

Rockfon’s Sonar D ceiling tiles were chosen for all the patient bedrooms. In the single bedrooms an elegant, monolithic ceiling expression was created using the RockLink 24 Monolith grid system, which is quick to install and can be directly fastened to the soffit or suspended in different heights. RockLink System Z was used for the four and six bed wards plus all circulation areas. This galvanized, concealed grid system creates an aesthetically pleasing yet still accessible ceiling.

Rockfon Sonar tiles are produced using a patented technology, ensuring razor-sharp looking edges that are not only elegant but also strong and flexible for superior durability. The top lacquer used on the surface provides enhanced cleaning properties and resistance to scratches and marks. Sonar also offers Class A sound absorption and Fire Class A1 properties to provide peace of mind as well as peace and quiet.

Rockfon Medicare was chosen for the communal areas of the new hospital at Kings Mill, as well as the bathrooms and kitchens where its specialist properties are of benefit in the fight against the spread of infections. Made from 100% stone wool, Rockfon ceiling tiles do not contain organic nutrients and do not allow growth of harmful microorganisms, such as ubiquitous bacteria and fungi, in particular MRSA. The MediCare range has been designed to provide class-leading ceiling solutions for a variety of specialist healthcare applications, and complies with the relevant Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) design considerations e.g. HTM 60 Ceilings and HTM 2045 Acoustics. MediCare tiles have smooth, imperforate surfaces and are easy to handle and cut.
