"The Robbens system has been excellent - creating a comfortable, welcoming environment that's helped to establish the new church at the heart of the community."

Peter Lynch, Minister of the new Worle Baptist Church in Weston-Super-Mare has found that Robbens underfloor heating can combine comfort with versatility.

Like many modern church buildings the new Baptist Church in Rawlings Avenue is designed for a multi-purpose role.

In addition to the large central worship space, the building offers a number of side rooms suitable for smaller meetings and there are full kitchen and toilet facilities.

As a result the Church is home to a wide variety of local groups ranging from playgroups to youth clubs. Guides and Brownies also use the main hall, where the stacking chairs can be easily stored away to provide the maximum open space.

Robbens underfloor heating makes a perfect partner for all these wide ranging activities - from a quiet meeting for two or three people in a side room to a large group in the main hall.

Regular church services also benefit, with the congregation enjoying discreet, draught -free comfort from the system concealed beneath the floor.

Discreetly located manifolds:
All areas of the new Worle church are served by a Robbens underfloor heating system embedded in the screeded concrete floor. During installation, loops of Robbens’ multi-layer pipework were fixed in position on the floor insulation material with the loop ends connected to discreetly located manifolds. The manifolds are connected in turn by flow and return services to the new gas-fired condensing boiler.

After pressure testing, a sand and cement screed was laid to integrate the heating system into the floor structure and provide a smooth, even surface for the carpet which covers all areas except the kitchen and toilets, which are finished with sheet vinyl.

The concealed system is completely safe to the touch with no hot, sharp corners to snag the unwary. Complete invisibility also makes it tamper-proof. Easy access is provided to all areas and all of the wall space is available for use.

Perfect complement:
Robbens underfloor heating makes a perfect complement for modern condensing boilers (see The low return temperatures keep the boiler in high efficiency condensing mode for maximum economy
Occupancy levels in the Baptist Church building vary widely according to the day of the week and the time of day. To combine full comfort for everyone in all circumstances with minimum fuel consumption the Robbens system is divided into a number of independent zones. Each zone has a dedicated thermostatic control to monitor the temperature of water flowing from the manifold into the concealed pipework loops.
