A Scottish glazing manufacturer proved to be in a league of its own when it clinched a GEZE UK competition to win a football table which was staged to celebrate the UEFA EURO 2016 championship.
While Portugal took the tournament in France, Charles Henshaw and Sons, of Edinburgh, took the table by successfully identifying Spain as the winner of the 2012 title. The entry was drawn at random from responses to a customer e-bulletin.
The table, which measures 141cm x 76cm x 90cm, is complete with 22 players, one team in yellow and blue kit, the other in blue and white kit.
It was presented to the company by GEZE UK's sales director Andy Howland and Rodger Allan, area sales manager for automatic door systems, who is based in the GEZE UK Scottish office.
James Gallon, Production Manager at Henshaw, submitted the winning entry and is intending to donate the table to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, in Edinburgh, which is currently being developed on a site in Sciennes, near the city centre. The new hospital is being fitted with GEZE doors in partnership with Charles Henshaw.
Said James: “It’s lovely to win such a great prize. I remember playing on football tables like this when I was a child, so it seems appropriate that it should find a home at the new hospital where so many children can have fun playing with it. However, one or two of my colleagues felt it was important to ‘test’ it before it went on its way.”
Andy Howland commented: “The competition was a great way to celebrate the summer of sport which we have all enjoyed this year. We are delighted that James won the table and even more delighted that he is donating it to such a worthy cause. We hope it will give many young patients just the lift that they need to make a speedy recovery back to good health.”
