Rehau rail solutions - Innovation in Motion

Using the strapline Innovation in Motion, REHAU exhibited for the first time at the recent Railtex exhibition.

The company, which is one of Europe’s leading polymer producers, has been successfully developing components for the third rail sector for more than 35 years. However, it is now extending that reach and targeting other areas such as catenary, track and rolling stock with innovative new solutions.

The response to the company’s presence at Railtex was very positive and it is focusing on a new range of civil engineering components, hose, handrail and renewable energy products to spearhead its growth.

REHAU’s current range includes live-rail insulators manufactured from high-tech GRP materials and split cable ducting which can be fitted without the need to disconnect and reconnect the cable.

Both of these products demonstrate REHAU’s ability to approach an existing component from a completely fresh perspective and to develop an advanced, contemporary solution which is more appropriate for the 21st century rail network.

Similarly, it has also introduced high visibility protective boarding for high risk conductor rail situations using impact and weather resistant polymer materials for the first time and easy to use polymer conductor rail shrouds and portable safety covers.

Quote: “REHAU is bringing a huge level of expertise to the rail industry and introducing solutions which we know have enormous potential.

“Equally, we are inviting customers to challenge us to design and develop something new if we don’t already have a solution available.”

REHAU’s potential strength in the rail sector and its confidence in setting this challenge comes largely from the breadth of its experience in polymer. With three divisions supplying automotive components to all the world’s major car manufacturers, polymer building materials for the whole of the UK construction industry and industrial products across the transportation and furniture sectors, it has proven expertise and innovative capabilities in materials development, systems design and surface technology.

In the rail industry, it is focusing these on the key areas of: safety, longevity, the environment, cost reduction, breakdown prevention, functionality and ease of installation.

Products with the greatest potential include thermoplastic high pressure hoses for bespoke applications in hydraulic, pneumatic or reinforced systems and polymer handrails which meet the latest building regulations for both internal and external installations.

Alongside these are advanced water drainage pipes and long life pvc draining pipe tailored for railway and tunnel construction.
