Rapid drying underlayment helps hospital finish flooring on time

The installation of floorcovering in an X-Ray Department of a very busy hospital has been completed in half a day thanks to F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s Stopgap 100 ultra rapid- drying floor smoothing underlayment.

Installation of new floorcoverings at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, was carried out by Base Flooring Solutions as part of a three-month refurbishment contract covering major areas such as Ward 15, the X-Ray Department and A & E.

With the need to keep these very busy areas out of action for as short a time as possible, Base Flooring opted for the use of both Stopgap 300 HD heavy-duty underlayment and Stopgap 100 Rapid, an ultra-fast drying smoothing underlayment to ensure speed of working. Specially-formulated for heavy-duty applications, Stopgap 300 was used in the most heavily trafficked areas where it was ready to receive floorcoverings in as little as six hours.

However, the X-Ray department was particularly time-sensitive and here Stopgap 100 ultra-fast drying smoothing underlayment was used. After uplifting the existing floorcovering, the floor was cleaned and primed. Stopgap 100 was then applied followed only two hours later by the installation of vinyl floorcovering. This enabled the Department to be handed back in half a day.

One of F. Ball’s market leading Styccobond vinyl adhesives was then used to secure Tarkett Eminent Safe.T floorcovering in wet areas and Eminent Granite in dry areas. Base Flooring’s John Gavin says: “The fact that the contract was finished on time is largely due to the use of F. Ball’s quick drying screeds.” The Hospital Estates Department is so impressed with the products that they are now included in the specifications that it sends out.
