Rainline Specified for Luxury Lake District Hotel
Lindab’s eco-friendly, Rainline – a steel rainwater drainage system is complementing the traditional features of a stunning new extension to the well known Gilpin Lodge Hotel in the Lake District. The new ‘Orchard Wing’ extension was designed by local architect, Ben Cunliffe, a specialist in environmental building projects, and built in partnership with Penrith-based contractors, Barco Developments.
The extension presented Ben with an architectural challenge. The design had to be sensitive to the hotel’s National Park location and also harmonise with the main buildings’ Victorian façade. “We wanted to create a structure with visual impact that didn’t simply imitate the past,” Ben explains. “So we decided to blend elements of the Cumbrian vernacular with modern building products, including shiny galvanised steel guttering and downpipes from Lindab’s Rainline range”.
In addition to Rainline’s aesthetic appeal, it also satisfied the project’s green construction, which includes the use of wood fibre building board, recycled newspaper insulation and sustainable timber cladding.
Rainline is manufactured from 30% recycled material and is fully recyclable itself.-providing a truly sustainable and cost effective solution.
Manufactured by Lindab in Sweden from high quality, zinc coated galvanized steel, Rainline is highly resistant to corrosion, is self healing and virtually maintenance free –underpinned by Lindab’s 15 year comprehensive guarantee on coated products.
In addition to Aluzinc, Rainline is also available in plain galvanized, natural copper, and eight attractive, durable, high build polyester paint finishes.
Rainline is also designed for ease of installation - gutters and downpipes simply click together without the need for sealants or special tools. A total of 80 linear metres of Rainline guttering and approximately 30 linear metres of downpiping were installed at the Gilpin Lodge Hotel’s new extension to ensure effective drainage of the building’s pitched and flat roofing.
