PORCHES PROVING PROFITABLE FOR RICHARD BURBIDGE
Ease of installation, a professional finish and a choice of practical, distinctive designs are proving a profitable combination for Richard Burbidge, as the company racks up over 3,000 porch sales in just over 12 months.
Sales of the company’s collection of ready-to-fix, flat pack timber porches together with accessory kits have grown steadily since the launch of the range in 2004. Comprising two ‘Apex’ style porches alongside a Flat Roof option, the range has been developed and manufactured to deliver maximum convenience without compromising on style or practicality.
All component parts are pre-cut, with most pre-drilled to save time. Each porch features traditional joinery methods for a high quality, professional finish with minimum hassle. Plus, each porch canopy is supplied with adjustable uprights that can be moved inwards to enable installers to accommodate exterior features such as windows, lighting or decorative brickwork.
Complementing the porch canopies are a number of spindle accessory kits. Suitable for use with both the Apex and Flat Roof canopies, the kits are available with turned or stop chamfered spindles in either ‘full’ or ‘half lengths’.
Thanks to the UK’s changeable climate, the absence of spacious hallways within many new-build properties and consumers’ desire to enhance the ‘kerbside appeal’ and individuality of their homes, demand for shelter-lending porches remains buoyant, as Product Manager Catriona Houston explains:
“The initial success of our collection is evidence of the demand that exists amongst both homeowners and installers for stylish, easy-to-assemble porches.
“Traditionally, the timber porches sector has been somewhat restrictive in terms of choice and volume, as many porches were made by joiners according to bespoke requirements. By eradicating the need for design, precise joinery cuts and time-consuming pre-drilling, we have provided installers and consumers with an affordable, quick and easy alternative that can be fitted by trade professionals and DIY-ers alike. With weekly porch sales already displaying a healthy trend, we are confident that this range will continue to go from strength to strength.”
The Apex canopy is available in two sizes, with maximum widths of 1200mm or 1600mm, while the Flat Roof porch can be fitted to widths of between 1200mm and 1600mm.
The ‘full length’ spindle kit features 798mm long spindles plus decorative front and back posts that run from the porch canopy to the floor. In contrast, the ‘half length’ system is supplied with 418mm long ‘mini’ spindles, designed for installation on top of ‘dwarf’ exterior brickwork walls.
Supplied in untreated pine, the canopies and accessories can be preserved in whatever colour or finish the end user desires. Once the porches are installed, they can be made watertight in about one hour by a professional roofer.
Recommended retail prices for Richard Burbidge porches start from £149.99 and £119.99 for an accessory kit (all prices include VAT).
