With such a prominent development, the thermal performance of the building was of the utmost importance. For this reason, specifiers turned to high-grade Celotex
CW3000 insulation boards to meet the challenge.
Eagerly anticipated by horse racing fans, the £2.2 million Haldon Extension Stand, designed by Architects Roberts Limbrick and built by Mansell Construction, provides a range of extra services on racedays. The flagship development, featuring four new corporate boxes, members lounge and banqueting area, also serves as a much needed extension to the racecourse’s popular conference and events facilities.
With performance and affordability of key importance, along with a proven track record, Celotex
was the prime choice for cavity wall insulation. Mansell Construction specified 2,000m² of Celotex’s CW3000 insulation boards for its excellent thermal properties. The 50mm boards prove to be more effective insulators than many other products on the market, making them a consistently popular choice with architects and specifiers nationwide.
The polyisocyanurate (PIR) foil faced boards outperform many other materials, including modern mineral wools. Providing excellent thermal insulation levels per mm, Celotex CW3000 proved superb at minimising cavity thickness whilst ensuring that the Haldon Stand Extension had a super effective thermal envelope.
With high levels of thermal performance, the boards are a proven means of reducing heating needs. The level of performance provided by Celotex
products over the lifetime usage in a building helped to contribute to Celotex’s A+ rating in the 2008 BRE Green Guide to Specification. Using Celotex reduces the requirement for additional heating, not only saving money but also helping the environment by reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy production.
Designed specifically as a partial fill solution, the cavity construction will help prevent the ingress of moisture and provide an effective barrier to rain penetration. In areas of the UK where wind driven rain is prominent, the cavity air space allows any moisture which enters the cavity to escape easily without affecting the thermal integrity of the boards and application. The foil facers of CW3000 have also been independently tested and provide an excellent low emissivity value. This allows an improved R-value to be claimed for the cavity air space further maximising thermal performance as well as maintaining an overall thin solution.
Situated right on the turf by a gentle bend in the course next to the main grandstand, the new development enjoys pride of place on the track. Now up and running, it is proving a popular addition to the racecourse, especially as it gives racegoers a place to go and warm up inside on cold days – thanks to Celotex CW3000’s high thermal properties.
