Though recognised throughout much of Western Europe for their traditional craftsmanship, VMZINC
is less well known in the UK for its handmade ornamental zinc. Built on over 100 years of metal working tradition, ‘les Ateliers d’Art Français’ are keeping alive the art of manufacturing zinc, copper and lead ornaments using traditional 19th century methods. The quality of their work is recognised as an industry benchmark both for bespoke items or any of over 300 products in their standard catalogue. In addition to finials, stamped and silhouette weathervanes, commissions regularly include dormers, bull’s eye windows, decorated rainwater downpipes, gargoyles and motifs. A recent London project included the manufacture of cast zinc bullseye dormers for the Wallace Collection. Working with John O’Connell Architects and Purcell Miller Tritton, zinc bullseye dormers were designed to enhance the classical appearance of the roof while disguising ventilation outlets. The new roof will enable ceilings in the east galleries to be restored to their former elegance and glory.
