Not All Solar Companies Are The Same – Make Sure They Are MCS And REA Accredited

Renewable energy technology and in particular solar power, is now recognised as one of the world’s fastest growing industries. With government initiatives and rocketing energy prices, it all makes solar a very tempting proposition for consumers. However, homeowners need to beware who they choose to help them reduce their energy bills – that’s the advice from Kent’s leading solar experts, The Green Home Company.

An increasing number of sales agencies are springing up around the country, professing to be able to offer consumers great deals on solar. However, as revealed on BBC Watchdog (Thursday, 22 September), these organisations are not required to operate to any codes of practice and this can lead to consumers losing out.

Solar installation companies have to be accredited to two national schemes – MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) which ensures the quality of the installation  and REA (Renewable Energy Association) which provides a consumer code of practice. Whilst installation companies offer these assurances, sales companies are not required to. This, according to The Green Home Company, can leave customers vulnerable.

The Green Home Company's Managing Director, Alan Proto, said today: "It's a difficult time for consumers to make the right choice about which company to use. There are certainly some rogue traders out there who can't deliver on their promises. The important thing is to make sure you do your research and choose a company with a reputation to back up their claims.

We are fortunate to have the infrastructure to install solar panels, backed up by 20 years of construction experience. It all amounts to credibility which gives our customers great peace-of-mind."

By directly employing all of its own surveyors, designers and installers, The Green Home Company is able to make sure its customers are protected every step of the way. With a track record of more than 600 of successful installations, their advice is simple; make sure you are dealing with a company that is accredited, trustworthy and has the experience to deliver what they promise.

More than 3,000 homes in the UK are turning to solar every month to help save money and reduce outgoings. As energy prices increase and government initiatives make solar increasingly attractive, its popularity looks set to soar. It may even be free for qualifying homes. But proceed with care – make sure you save money and the planet whilst being protected by a company that offers MCS and REA accreditation.
