Miniature homes made from cork and moss

Amsterdam-based designer Rosa de Jong creates miniature buildings out of cork and fake moss. In her project, Micro Matter, de Jong’s handmade miniature environments exist in glass test tubes which gives the illusion that they are floating mid-air, resembling the floating castle from Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle.

De Jong builds her tiny buildings by hand and each one looks like an idyllic home built into tiny cliffs. Miniature staircases curve throughout the hand painted cork rock and her most recent pieces hang between glass panes and are secured with wires. Her work is currently on display from the 30th of August at Antler Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
