Major machinery investment at leading timber merchant

Leading timber merchant Arnold Laver has completed the second phase of a major investment programme at its national production centre in Sheffield.

The company has spent £175,000 on new handling equipment to keep it at the forefront of its market.

The Weinig E7 Automatic Infeed System has been installed at Arnold Laver Timber World, Mosborough to improve production output for an even quicker turn round in clients’ orders.

It works by automatically separating the timber bundles, lining up the timber pieces and feeding them into the moulding machine at twice the speed that can be achieved manually.

The high-tech equipment has been installed to improve flexibility, efficiency levels and stock accuracy. It also offers health and safety benefits for Arnold Laver staff.

It will be used in conjunction with the Weinig A7 Automatic Outfeed Handling equipment installed at Mosborough’s mill last year.

Andy Bowler, Arnold Laver’s Operations Director at Mosborough, said: “The Weinig E7 Automatic Infeed system is the Rolls Royce of this type of timber machinery. It is another big investment for Arnold Laver Timber World and is already proving to be money well spent with production gains of 30 per cent.

“The installation of the Infeed system is part of a wider investment programme at Arnold Laver. It highlights our commitment to continuous improvement and modernisation at our national production centre to further enhance the service we can offer our customers.”
