Tower Place is a new prestige office building designed by Foster and Partners for Tishman Speyer Properties. It is a low-rise, deep plan environmentally conscious building situated close to the Tower of London and provides 42,000 sq metres of office accommodation in two blocks. These are triangular in plan and are linked by a glazed atrium, which is one of the largest in Europe, and features highly advanced engineering technology for the glass walls with rows of glass panels hung on tension cables between the two blocks.
Foster and Partners specified Concretal Lasur from Keim Mineral Paints for the entry and access areas and car park walls to equalise colour variations in the concrete finish whilst retaining its natural look. The Concretal Lasur system is a low pigmentation colour stain available in a wide range of shades which can be used successfully where an opaque treatment would be out of keeping with the concrete aesthetics. It is ideal for unifying variations in the colour and texture of concrete which are virtually unavoidable in large-scale buildings , whilst retaining the structure and look of the concrete..
It was also specified to provide a longlife protective finish. This is achieved because the microcrystalline structure of the paint forms a chemical bond with the concrete to ensure extreme longlife performance. Keim paints are also resistant to acid and alkaline conditions, completely lightfast inherently non-combustible and are environmentally friendly being odourless, mould resistant, solvent and VOC free and produced using only natural inorganic materials..
