LEEDS PROJECT TURNED ON TO LEGRAND

Legrand has supplied Tenby white wiring devices, DLP Contour perimeter trunking and Plexo 66 external power sockets for use in a multi-million project that is delivering newer and better homes for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs being built across Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The Leeds Independent Living Project is a 25-year housing Private Finance Initiative (PFI) between Leeds City Council and the Leeds Independent Living Accommodation Company (LiLAC) that will see 73 houses, bungalows and small blocks of flats built on 40 sites across the city over a three year period.

Legrand initially secured the order in 2007 when its Tenby white wiring devices were specified for use across all sites. When Powerminster was subsequently appointed as electrical contractor for the project in 2008 the decision was quickly made to stick with Tenby on the basis the products provided a combination of good value and ease of installation that was hard to match. At the same time there was an additional requirement for cable management systems in administrative accommodation across a number of the sites and external power sockets on all sites. This resulted in Legrand’s DLP Contour perimeter trunking and Plexo 66 sockets being specified.

Steve Wood, a project director for Powerminster, commented: “On any project it’s important to be confident in your suppliers, but on one of this scale it’s absolutely vital. Legrand has a good on-going relationship with Leeds City Council and I’ve always been happy with them in the past, which meant I had no hesitation in going with them for the remaining elements of the electrical specification.”

Paul Outterside, a Legrand area sales manager, added: “By being able to come to Legrand to specify these three different solutions, Powerminster has provided an excellent example of our ‘powered by specialists’ new business unit approach in practice.

“Hopefully this example will prove useful for other contractors who want to ensure high quality solutions across a specification, but don’t want to have to deal with several different manufacturers.”

When complete the Leeds Independent Living Project will have delivered purpose-designed new homes for 343-adults, who currently live in 13 large residential homes, allowing them to live in closer to their own communities in smaller, independent settings. Legrand’s Tenby wiring devices have a strong reputation for being solid, reliable and robust products. And while they tend to be used most frequently in installations where practicality has a higher priority than cutting-edge style, this doesn’t mean they aren’t easy on the eye – in fact, the Tenby style has been a firm favourite with installers and wholesalers for many years. Today, the range benefits not just from a strong reputation, but a range of technical, style and installation features that help it stand out from the competition. These include everything from a stylish rocker switch to backed off screws, angled terminals, clear moulded markings and screw covers.

DLP Contour is Legrand’s range of PVC-U perimeter trunking that is designed specifically to provide greater flexibility, easier modification and a significant reduction in installation time. It is available in three profiles – skirting, dado and universal –, is compatible with all current data cabling requirements.

The Plexo 66 range of IP66 rated wiring devices offers enhanced safety, whatever the weather. Constructed out of robust and tough wearing materials, it provides unrivalled protection against impact, liquids and dust in any number of different commercial or residential environments.
