Leeds dogs trust is barking mad for Ardex!
ARDEX UK, world leaders in premium performance tile fixing systems, worked in conjunction with tiling contractors B.Darnton & Co to deliver the perfect tile fixing and grouting solution for the new Dogs Trust centre in Leeds. Founded in 1891, Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, caring for over 154,000 stray or abandoned dogs every year through its network of 17 Rehoming Centres across the UK. The newly built Leeds Dogs Trust will provide superb facilities including three sleeper kennels, a dedicated puppy unit, rehoming unit and a modern visitor reception area.
ARDEX's fastest setting and hardening tile adhesive, ARDEX-FLEX 6001, was specified to fix the 400m2 of Parmesa floor tiles. Renowned for versatile and effective performance with all types of tiles including mosaics, fully vitrified and porcelain, ARDEX-FLEX 6001 is suitable for both internal and external installations. It is easy to apply with excellent workability, enabling tiles to be walked on and grouted after just 90 minutes.
The Pilkington’s wall tiles were fixed utilising ARDEX-FLEX 5001 grey flexible tile adhesive. Key benefits of ARDEX-FLEX 5001 include a slump free consistency and excellent initial grab, which enables even heavy wall tiles to be fixed without the need for battens or spacers. Suitable to fix all types of wall and floor tiles including fully vitrified and porcelain, ARDEX-FLEX 5001 has been developed with a built-in admix which provides significant savings over a conventional cement-based adhesive with a separate admix.
The tile joints were grouted with epoxy-based ARDEX WA grout. Easy to apply and clean off, ARDEX WA provides a waterproof and chemically resistant joint from 2-12mm wide, which makes it the ideal choice for use in this location where rigorous and frequent cleaning regimes will be necessary.
“It was essential that we specified tiling products that would withstand the performance demands of the environment but would be cost efficient and, as expected, ARDEX met the brief with ease. It was a delight to be involved with such a worthy project as the new Leeds Dogs Trust”, enthused Andy Hill of B.Darnton & Co.
