The UK’s leading insulation manufacturer, Knauf Insulation, is a main sponsor of the Grand Designs Great British Refurb campaign. Headed by TV presenter Kevin McCloud, the initiative is calling on the Government to provide support to householders in making their homes more environmentally friendly.

There are over 26 million houses in Britain, most of which are not energy efficient, wasting precious heat and costing homeowners staggering amounts of money in fuel bills. The Great British Refurb campaign aims to provide support to these homeowners in making it more affordable to go green at home, as well as contributing to the Government’s target of reducing CO2 emissions by 80 per cent by 2050.

The first stage of the campaign delivered a petition to Downing Street, calling for all MPs and the Government to support the initiative. Prior to the petition handover, MPs including the Secretary for Energy and Climate Change Ed Miliband and Housing Minister John Healey joined Kevin McCloud outside Parliament to help him insulate a model house, utilising Knauf Insulation’s products, to demonstrate the simple eco-friendly steps that can be taken on any property.

Lydia Sharples head of communications at Knauf Insulation said: “The most cost effective way of improving a home’s energy efficiency is to install insulation. Cutting energy use in the home will save the homeowner money and reduce their impact on the environment, but in some cases the upfront costs associated with some of the products available to make the home greener can be too high. This is the reason we fully support the initiative in persuading the Government to help finance simple refurbishments and in turn helping to meet its energy targets.

“Our homes account for around 40 per cent of our carbon footprint, so finding ways to finance energy efficient renovations in the home is crucial to cutting down carbon emissions to provide a sustainable future for the world we live in,” comments Lydia Sharples.
